vcs-bowl1

On August 21st from 6:30pm to 9:00pm, VCS of Rockland will be dusting off its bowling shoes for a fundraiser in Haverstraw (North Rockland).  The event is sure to cause a rumble, but before we get a strike on cliches, here’s what you need to know:

(1) It’s at Hi-Tor Lanes, 44 Route 9W, Haverstraw, NY 10927

(2) You don’t need to be any good at bowling… at all! (Really–we’re no good either.)

More details available on this flyer, or you can reach VCS at (845) 634-5729 (advance registration saves you some cash!)

Book Sale in Stony Point (June 6 and 7)!

May 30, 2009 By: Rockland ∫ Bergen ™ Category: Stony Point (NY)

rose-memorial-libarary

If you’re looking for this year’s Annual Book Sale, its particular location may confuse some.  But don’t worry, we’ll set the record straight.

The Rose Memorial Library Association of Stony Point, with the Friends of the Rose Memorial Library, are hosting their Annual Book Sale on June 6 and June 7, from 10AM to 4PM on both days.

But if you haven’t already heard, the libary, which is currently located on 79 East Main Street, has selected its future home just a few blocks away at 61 East Main Street, Stony Point. And it’s at #61 that you’ll find this weekend’s book sale!  (Other days, you’ll still find a full schedule of programming and services at its regular location.)

One more thing… it’s not just books!  You’ll also find DVD’s and CD’s, as well as a Bake Sale (yes, food!) and Raffles too.

Send us your questions or comments, or reach the library for details.  And we’ll see you Saturday or Sunday.

Farley Bridge Ends!

April 18, 2009 By: Rockland ∫ Bergen ™ Category: Stony Point (NY)

farleybridge2

As of 2pm on Thursday, April 30th, The James A Farley Bridge of Stony Point has been destroyed (on purpose).

While nothing yet replaces it, the New York State DOT will work steadily toward the erection of a new structure, which will cost over $11 million.

The new bridge will have a wider shoulder, turning lanes, and will lead into a safer, more efficient intersection on the North side.

In the meantime, various detours are available for navigating between the two ‘ends’ of Stony Point and into Tomkins Cove, as well as for those who are traveling through both towns via Route 9W.  The particular detour you’ll take depends upon where you’re coming from… If you need guidance, send us a message.

  • In related news, we’ll be bringing you information in the coming days on a promotion among some local businesses as a response to this event!  In the meantime, sign up for email updates if you wish to be alerted when the promotion begins.

Additionally, let us know if you have any interesting STORIES, VIDEOS, or dare we say COMPLAINTS about the Farley Bridge Replacement Project, please “comment” below!
