ORIGINAL MEETING NOTICE…

This shall be our first SUMMER event. (Yes, I’m aware that Summer does not officially start until 6/21, but we’re a proactive group, are we not?)

This shall be our first OUTDOOR event. (No, not camping; an outdoor area of a restaurant.)

This shall be our first LARGE event. (Goal is 30, but we’ll settle for 20+)

And, this shall be our most VALUABLE event so far, which is why the subtitle is, “Do Not Miss This!” (You have almost two months advance notice, so you’ll have no excuses!)

All that said, here’s what you need to know:

(1) YOU will be choosing the location. Over the next two weeks (deadline April 24), submit to me YOUR idea for the best location for this event. The ideal spot will, of course, be one that satisfies the above criteria, i.e. a restaurant with a large outdoor section that holds 30 people, and which we can reserve for our exclusive use. The restaurant should also be moderately priced, and located somewhere along the NY/NJ border (Montvale, Park Ridge, Pearl River, Old Tappan, Tappan, or Northvale).

(2) I will use my very best judgment to select from among the submitted ideas. Once a location is determined, I’ll reserve it and revise this announcement with further details.

(3) Those attending will submit to me a headshot, along with a brief bio and contact info. Additionally, you’ll have the option of mailing me 40 business cards. Why? Well, rather than spend your time shoving cards into everyone’s pockets, I’ll take care of the publicity for you so you can spend your time enjoying yourself.

(4) Lastly, I’m looking for two assistant organizers to help with marketing the event, and the group in general. If you’re interested, send me a message with how you’d like to be involved.

That’s it for now. I look forward to seeing many of you in June, and especially look forward to meeting many of our NEWEST members!

I’ll be back in touch in two weeks–in the meantime, it’s not too early to RSVP or invite a guest!

Regards,
Matthew Clement
Organizer

Who are the Rockland Bergen Young Professionals?

The easiest way, for the moment, to introduce RBYP–the Rockland Bergen Young Professionals–is to reference our official Meetup page: www.Meetup.com/rocklandbergen.

When you go there, you’ll see that we have (at this writing) 71 members.

Our description:

The Rockland/Bergen Young Professionals is a social group of self-driven people. Whether you have your own practice, own a business, or consider your employer your “top client,” we invite you to spend some time with other like-minded people.

We typically meet the first Thursday of the month at 5:30pm for drinks and appetizers at a local restaurant. Bring yourself or bring a friend. Please don’t sell us, but do share with us—your ideas; your perspective; your upcoming endeavors.

For purposes of clarity, “young” shall be defined as in one’s 20’s, 30’s, or early 40’s, and “professional” as having the ability to manage one’s own affairs. (Yes, it most certainly is arbitrary.)

If you’ve come upon our group for the first time, we hope you’ll consider attending our next event on June 4th.  Details our pending, but for the moment, see our description on Meetup!

Official Blogsite to Accompany RBYP Meetup Page

On February 17, 2008, the Rockland Bergen Young Professionals (RBYP) was created as a group through Meetup.com, and over the course of the last fourteen months, has steadily added a few Meetup members per month to its roster.  The group has had a total of 8 meetings, and as the total membership has increased, so to has attendance at these events.

16 people attended the last event, and with our upcoming June 4th event, we’ll move in the 20-30+ range.

It therefore seemed time to establish an additional resource for members and propective members of the group.  Our meetup page (www.meetup.com/rocklandbergen) will continue to function as our official website for new members and event registration.  Created with the help of a new resource blogsite known simply as Rockland ∫ Bergen ™, this RBYP Blogsite will allow for:

  • Ability to provide information, resources, and details not available on the Meetup site
  • A Member Directory for those members of RBYP who wish to utilize it
  • Greater interactivity between individual members and between the group and its members
  • Additional opportunity to find new members
  • Another way to promote future RBYP events

All posts will allow for member and public “comments,” and a Join Us page and Contact Us page will allow those outside of the group to contact us for additional information.

Membership in RBYP is free.
